Inside Line Promotions – MEEKER, Okla. (March 10, 2020) – Brenham Crouch was in position for a good result at Red Dirt Raceway last Saturday.

The 14-year-old showed speed in his heat race, advancing from third to second. That put Crouch seventh on the starting grid for the 20-lap Winged ‘A’ Class main event with the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division.

But racing can be a tough game. A fellow competitor got out of shape entering the first corner and Crouch was left with nowhere to go. He came from the rear to ninth before another incident dropped him to 13th in the final rundown.

“We had Brenham’s car pretty good and I did a couple of things to my stuff just to try something different,” team manager Joey Starnes said. “Something happened in Turn 1 and there ended up being three cars involved in a caution and Brenham was one of them. So his results don’t show the speed he had.”

The 13th-place run was Crouch’s third top-15 finish in five starts this season.

“The car is rolling really good,” he said. “I think if we can add some luck in there we will be good. We are definitely fast.”

Starnes also competed in the Winged ‘A’ Class division. He rallied from seventh to third in a heat race and started on the pole of the feature before pulling in with an ill-handling race car. He was credited with an 18th-place finish.

“My car was great in the heat race and had great speed,” he said. “We were good the first couple of laps of the feature, but when the tires got hot and the rubber came in, it was a little too much to hold on to so we pulled in to save equipment.”

Crouch is focusing on asphalt stock car action in the Carolinas the next couple of weeks before resuming competition on dirt during the four-day Turnpike Challenge at the end of this month.

“It’s definitely a lot different than dirt,” he said. “It’s a great step forward and I’m really excited to be in this position right now.”
